Village of Mexico unfair to it's Local Businesses |
Nov 12, 2008 - 3:58 PM - by Junior

The village of Mexico is unfair to it's Local Businesses
Dear Friends, Neighbors, Customers, Business Owners and Members of the Mexico NY Community,
As a local business owner I have to ask: did you ever have one of those days? What kind you ask - well I'll tell you. The kind where the local government does everything in their power to make it hard, miserable & even impossible to do business.
I am so sorry to say that Mexico is a villiage that demands so much and gives so little. When I first moved here to Mexico in '95, I had quite a different opinion of the area. Once I became a business owner, Mexico taught me otherwise RIGHT AWAY! Local politics it seems can be very one sided. Things like who you know, who owes you, and what have you done for me, and my favorite: whose toes did you step on, seem to play a big part.
Times are VERY tough right now for everyone and to top it off, Business owners really have two lives, their business and their personal. We work hard to fight the worst of times and quite often lose in the end. But while times are bad, we should be doing all we can to help each other. You would think that local officials would take a look at everything as a whole and maybe just give a damn enough to quit hassling businesses over the most trivial unimportant things!! Maybe lend a helping hand, not a hurting one.
Our zoning officers has been in our store with promises of court dates over things like leaky gutters, indoor signage and things that to us just don't make sense.
The new sidewalks are beautiful right? But at what expense. The year the sidewalks were replaced we nearly went out of business due to the MONTHS of difficult accessibility to our shop as well as NO PARKING FOR ANYONE. We were at the end of it all when I invited Channel 9 to see and report what had happened and low and behold, construction was restarted the next day! Gee. Our supportive clients and friends were there with words of encouragement as well as their business to keep us afloat. We still feel the loss today believe it or not. Why does Mexico do so much to hurt small local businesses?
The Keeping of Mexico in the 1800's is just not going to work. Mexico is growing and at a fast pace too. Enhancing the look and feel of the area is part of growth. But to overlook certain things and pick on the others that offend you is not the way to bring us all together.
Question: If you took all the business out of Mexico, what would you have? Answer: A 55mph speed limit. Get my point. Take a look at what the businesses do for the area. It's nice not to have to drive 15 mile for a container of milk!
Sincerely,
Mark SR.

Burglary at St. Mary's Church |
|
Nov 17, 2008 - 7:29 PM - by jshaw77
|
A burglary took place at St. Mary's Church on Main St., Mexico during the early hours of Saturday, November 15th. The break-in occurred in the rear of the church. A number of sacred golden vessels were taken along with vestment robes and altar wine.
One of the items taken was a sacred chalice which belonged to pastor, Rev. John Canorro.
If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of the church's items or tips leading to the apprehension of the thieves, you are asked to call the Oswego County Sheriff's Department or the rectory at 963-7182.

Pelican Pams - A sub shop in Mexico |
Mar 26, 2008 - 7:21 PM - by Junior
|
For those that have not heard it yet. We have a new sub shop in Mexico on Main Street (RTE. 104)
It is called Pelican Pams. They have everything from hot sandwiches, chili, stew, salads and more. They have freshed baked Italian sub rolls daily and use Boar's Head brand meats which in my opinion is the best.
Try them out for lunch or diner.

I hear a lot of people in the Mexico area complain about their Verizon Mobile service.... No signal, dropped calls and so on.. There is an free update you can do from your phone that will update locations of Cell Towers.
I have done this on my Verizon LG phone on 9-13-08 and since then instead of no bars in the Village, now I get 2 bars that allow me to make and receive calls. Call signals have also improved in surrounding areas.
The information below was taken directly from the Verizonwireless website. I hope this helps some of you.
